About the Walks
General
These walks all use public transport and take place on Sundays and Wednesdays.
In all cases, read the walk description for details.
- Dogs on walks
- Dogs may be taken on some MPTR walks but must always be on a short lead. Some landowners forbid dogs during the bird breeding season, usually March to July. Please check with the leader before bringing a dog on any walk.
Sunday Walks
These can be short, moderate or strenuous walks. Some of the short walks are open to families with children.
- Short Walks
- 4 to 6 miles across mostly flat or gentle undulating terrain. Any climbing is kept short and not too steep. The pace of the walk is slow/moderate, and the leader will go at the pace of the slowest walker in the group. You must be reasonably fit to walk at an easy/moderate pace for at least 3 hours. Some short walks are also open to families with children. Children must be accompanied by an adult (maximum 2 children per adult). If you are bringing a child on a walk for the first time and would need more information on the suitability of the walk for your child, please contact Pauline on 0161 448 1821 or email pauline.brooke@yahoo.co.uk
- Moderate Walks
- 7 to 9 miles with one or two climbs. Climbing can be challenging. The pace of the walk is moderate/easy. You must be fit and able to walk at a moderate pace for at least 4 hours.
- Strenuous Walks
- 10 miles and over often across challenging terrain and with an amount of climbing up to 2,500ft. The pace of the walk is fast/moderate. You must be fit and able to walk at a fast pace for at least 6 hours.

Wednesday Walks
The short walks are of a moderate grade and do not exceed 8 miles. The long walks are more strenuous and can be longer than 10 miles.
